ABOUT US

What is prosthodontics?

Prosthodontics is the area of dentistry relating to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of oral functions, aesthetics, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing teeth, deficient teeth and/or compromised maxillo-facial tissues using biocompatible substitutes.

History of the Australian Prosthodontic Society

The Australian Prosthodontic Society (APS) was established in 1961 by dentists wanting to improve their knowledge of fixed and removable prosthodontics. In the years since, the APS has grown to 400 members with state branches in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Western Australia and provides quality masticatory learning to our members and their guests.

The APS is an important contributor to prosthodontic research through an annual grants program which has assisted prosthodontic registrars for over 20-years. As an affiliated society of the Australian Dental Association, the APS is a leader in prosthodontic education for dentists, dental specialists, and dental students across Australia.
