APS QLD October Meeting
Lessons in Adult Orthodontics

Presenter: Dr Joyce Wong
Adult orthodontics is a growing field. Needless to say, it is a challenging one. Adult patients seek treatment for a number of reasons, including the improvement of tooth alignment, function and/or facial aesthetics. The complexities which come with an aged dentition often necessitates interdisciplinary care.
Fortunately, advancements in all fronts of dentistry have enabled interdisciplinary management of the often unique and complicated needs of adult patients, which have resulted in improved treatment outcomes and quality of care. A major part of patient care is managing expectations in relation to treatment outcomes as well as stability and retention of treatment.
Lessons in adult orthodontics (typically learned in retrospect), include clinical scenarios that arise before, during and after orthodontic treatment. This presentation will touch upon what we can and cannot do with orthodontics alone with various appliances, as well as stability and retention issues that we see in adult patients.
